Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) and Universal Pictures, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) have officially confirmed the making of a “Gears of War” film.

The movie will be an adaptation of the popular game franchise with the same title. The franchise is one of the most popular titles in the Xbox exclusives arsenal and its popularity is also expected to have a positive impact on the performance of the film. The announcement that the two studios will be working on a movie for the franchise was made by Rod Fergusson, the head of the Coalition Studio.

Some of the iconic names that will be working on the Gears of War film include Dylan Clark, who previously produced “Oblivion” and “Planet of the Apes,” and Scott Tuber, producer for “Central Intelligence.” Other details about the film including the director and writer are yet to be revealed.

“As a way to support the franchise, the next logical step was to make the movie,” stated Fergusson.

Ferguson further added that the studio has previously worked on novels and comics relating to the “Gears of War” franchise and that making a movie was the next big thing. The announcement might provoke a lot of attention but the people tasked with making the film will face a lot of pressure. This is because previous movies made from game titles have a disappointing track record.

The decision to make a “Gears of War” film highlights the growing trend of making films based on game titles or franchises. There is also an upcoming title of the popular “Assassins Creed” franchise. Hopefully, films will live up to the franchise that they will be adopting. Microsoft is also expected to launch “Gears of War 4” on October 11 and it will be the latest installment of the franchise for Windows 10 and Xbox One.

Microsoft stock closed the latest trading session at $57.64, an improvement by $0.40 or 0.70% compared to the value of the stock during the previous close.
