Liberty Health Sciences (OTCQX: LHSIF) said Feb. 1 that its cannabis manufacturing facility in Florida has received a good manufacturing practice certificate.
The cannabis firm’s medical cannabis manufacturing facility, located at Liberty 360 Innovation Campus property in Gainesville, has earned the certificate from the British Standards Institution. The GMP certification indicates that the facility also meets all of the Florida Department of Health requirements pertaining to the processing, extraction and production of medical cannabis, Liberty Health said in a statement.
“Receiving GMP certification at an additional facility is a major milestone for Liberty Health Sciences and it demonstrates our commitment to producing the highest quality and safest products possible for our customers throughout the state of Florida,” Liberty CEO George Scorsis stated.
Jessica Engle, director of regulatory compliance for Liberty, said that the company has developed a “fully-operational HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) plan” to produce safe products. He added that HACCP is a “scientific approach to preventative risk analysis.”
“Every time a process changes, equipment changes, or raw material changes, our HACCP team meets to identify potential physical, chemical, and microbiological risks. Preventative measures are then put into place to help reduce the likelihood of the contamination hazard from ever occurring,” Engle explained.
Currently, the GMP certification covers processing capabilities for 10,000 square feet at the Liberty 360 Innovation Campus. Liberty operates 20,000 square feet of cultivation space at the Liberty 360 Innovation Campus, as well as 40,000 square feet at the original Alachua property to support the growing demand for its product. The company intends to add an additional 160,000 square feet of cultivation space this year.
