On December 6, 2016, President-elect Donald J. Trump announced his intention to nominate James N. Mattis, a member of the Board of Directors of General Dynamics Corporation, to serve as United States Secretary of Defense. On January 5, 2017, Mr. Mattis announced that he would resign from the company’s Board of Directors upon confirmation as Secretary of Defense.
