Fitbit Inc (NYSE:FIT) has announced the global availability of its newly launched fitness tracker, Fitbit Alta HR. The new fitness tracker from Fitbit will now be available not just in select retailers in North America but also in other parts of the world such as South America, Europe and Asia Pacific.
Some of the versions of Alta HR that will be made globally available include the Classic edition, the Luxe edition, Special edition and the designer collections. With the classic edition, some of the colors that the fitness tracker will come in include fuchsia, coral, blue gray and black.
Better fitness tracker
The Alta HR is an improvement on Fitbit Alta which was launched last year and it offers fitness and health capabilities such as tracking of the heart rate including the resting heart rate, measuring the number of calories burnt, sleep tracking and many more.
Some of the benefits accruing from these capabilities include helping wearers of the device to be in a better position to understand their sleep quality. This way they can gain insight on how much of their sleeping time is spent in REM, deep or light sleep. Wearers of the device can also be able to find out how various habits and activities affect their sleep patterns and also get customized insights on how they can improve their sleep with a view to improving their overall health.
Resting heart rate
With regards to exercise, the Alta HR places wearers of the device in a better position to understand the benefits of consistent exercise which improves their resting heart rate over the course of time as the device monitors and shows this statistic. A reduction in the level of the resting heart rate indicates cardiovascular health, up to a point of course. Fluctuations meanwhile could point to an illness or other conditions.
Additionally, the Alta HR benefits weight watchers in that they are able to determine the right intensity for exercise. They can also keep track of the calories they have consumed as well as the calories they have burned in the course of the day.
On Monday shares of Fitbit Inc shot up by 5.37% to close the day at $5.69.
