Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) Launches Free Version Of M With Artificial Intelligence Features

Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) announced that it is in the process of unveiling a completely automated version of M in Android as well as iOS users in the U.S.

Features of the new version

The company has already carried out testing on its digital personal assistant, M. this was carried out on a selected percentage of Messenger users in the past few months. M was initially introduced to the market in 2015. It incorporates artificial intelligence and it was trained and supervised by individuals as well.

David Marcus, a representative of Facebook wrote, “Unlike other AI based services in the market, M can actually complete tasks on your behalf.” M is capable of carrying out tasks such as getting gifts delivered, purchasing items and even booking travel arrangements among other activities.

M has some limitations but it’s getting better

The new version of M is completely automated. However, it offers limited functionality hence exposing users to factors in the Messenger. M avails whenever it identifies intent during a conversation. At the moment it provides only six actions for the users. These include paying or requesting money, sending stickers, making plans, sharing locations, getting a ride as well as starting a poll.

Facebook managers Kemal El Moujahid and Laurent Landowski stated, “This is just the beginning of M.” They further stated that users should expect for more AI powered, relevant and delightful experiences as Messenger improves by the day.

Competition from rivals

M already has plenty of competitors especially when it comes to AI enabled digital helpers. Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google messaging App, Allo also provides intelligent options. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to feature a developed voice powered digital helper labeled Bixby. There is also Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) with Siri and Google Assistant. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) too has Assistant Alexa which is available on the smartphones.

Facebook is also planning to provide a free version of Workplace on its messaging services which is targeted at businesses. The free standard will enable one to one as well as group voice and video calls, streaming video and chats.

It is not yet clear when the free version will be available. The company only hinted that it will be availed soon enough.

Facebook Inc closed its day at $141.17 shedding 0.48% in yesterday’s trading session.
