Palo Alto-based social media giant, Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), is releasing a new photo feature for its members. The new feature will enable members of the social network to create custom frames for their profile photos. The custom frame creation tool will be part of the Camera Effects Platform.
Ease of use
The tool used to create the custom profile frame is simple to work with and one does not need to be technically savvy to utilize it. The frame or frames created can then be submitted for others to use. The frames can also be used in support of causes, events, businesses, teams or anything else Facebook users would be interested in promoting.
The frames are first created on any design tool or photo editing software. The frame is then exported in a Portable Network Graphics (PNG) format while ensuring that a transparent background for each of the elements is maintained. Uploading of the frame to Facebook is then done. It is possible to preview or add details after the frame has been uploaded on Facebook.
Approval process
Before the frames created by its users can go live, the social media network will first have to approve them as the frames must not be in violation of the company’s terms and policies. Facebook also reserves the right to take down a frame that it discovers to be in breach of its terms and policies after it has already approved.
The Camera Effects Platform will first be made available in Taiwan, Ireland, United Kingdom, Mexico and Colombia. The choice was decided based on the high popularity and heavy use of profile frames in these countries. It is expected that the Camera Effects Platform will be made available in the United States and other places in the near future. Ireland is currently the only market where Facebook’s in-app camera is test-marketing. And just like the custom frame-creating tool, Facebook’s in-app camera is believed to be a SnapChat clone.
Facebook ended Thursday’s trading session at $118.91 a share having climbed 0.81% from the previous day.
