Facebook, Inc (NASDAQ:FB) Considering Expanding Its Messenger Lite To More Countries

The stock of Facebook, Inc (NASDAQ:FB) closed at $169.47 losing 0.82% in yesterday’s trading session. Facebook Messenger Lite may soon make its way to the UK, US, Ireland and Canada. The initial objective of coming up with the Android-only app was to help users gain access to Messenger in those areas experiencing sluggish mobile connectivity.

Android users outside the provider’s intended markets have over quite some time been sideloading Messenger Lite. The main aim has been to find an escape route from the ever growing suite of features being presented by this particular app. However, the sad bit is the fact that there doesn’t exist any such thing as Messenger Lite for iPhones and some sources indicate that Facebook has no plans underway to release it.

The functions of Messenger Lite are well cut out. It focuses on messaging and doesn’t include the latest additions like games, stories, or Snapchat-selfie lens effects. One of the officials working with the company opined, “If you’re annoyed by all that extra stuff on regular Messenger, the Lite version is for you.”

The Lite version pulls along as a major redemption to most of those people that have been annoyed by the extra stuff found on the regular messenger.

But it would also be wrong to jump to the conclusion that all is well with the slimmed down Messenger Lite. Just like the regular one, it is also missing some aspects or features which quite a large number of people find useful. Video calling and chat heads are definitely some good examples.

Messenger Lite would serve as an opportunity to find out whether or not one is inclined to the sticks-to-the-basics design. If at the end of the day one feels compelled to move back to using the bloated Messenger app, then the market will adapt.
