CVS Health Corp (NYSE:CVS) and Cleveland Clinic have reached an agreement to expand their eight-year clinical affiliation in Northeast Ohio and Florida. The two plan to ramp up their efforts in coordinating patient care as well as providing services needed to support healthy patient outcomes in the two regions.

Expanded Partnership

The expanded partnership will see the two work together to enhance clinical support, medication counseling and chronic disease monitoring. The two also plan to join forces in wellness programs at CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic locations.

The two firms are to share standard protocols and quality metrics in addition to examining population health data. There are also plans to come up with clinical programs for dealing with high rates of chronic disease while also helping people better manage their medications.

“By expanding and enhancing our affiliation, we will broaden electronic communication between providers in both organizations and leverage population health data to help improve the health outcomes and reduce the cost of care for the patients we serve,” said Sharon Vitti MinuteClinic executive director.

CVS Health, MinuteClinic, and Cleveland Clinic have also agreed to streamline and enhance communication through there electronic health record systems. Michael Rabovsky expects the collaboration to enhance the quality of care that patients receive in addition to helping the companies oversee patient care more seamlessly.

Cigna-CVS Collaboration

Separately, Cigna has teamed up with CVS Health to save money on urgent care and emergency room visits. In June, the two companies announced an initiative for Cigna‘s employer sponsored health plans designed to help customers get routine care at their preferred locations. The collaboration will align Cigna health benefits with CVS Pharmacy and CVS MinuteClinic Healthcare services.

Under the initiative, CIGNA Corporation (NYSE:CI) clients are to enjoy a more wired experience at retail pharmacies and routine care locations. The company expects the clients in return to share relevant health action messages that will enable them access health and wellness incentives.

CVS Health was up by 2.35% in Tuesday’s trading session to end the day at $78.91 a share.
