Apple to introduce 5-inch iPhone this September: Report

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will add a new 5-inch iPhone model to its product lineup this year, according to a new report from Macotakara via 9to5 Mac.

The report, which cites reliable sources in Taiwan, said that the tech giant is adding wireless charging support to only the all-glass model of the iPhone.

Rumors suggest that Apple will release a 5-inch iPhone model with a vertical dual-camera design. The new model is said to be nearly identical in terms of specifications to the iPhone 7s and iPhone 7s Plus.

This year’s iPhone is rumored to get a wireless charging. An earlier report claimed that wireless charging will be supported on all iPhone models launched this year. But the new report is claiming that only the glass model, possibly dubbed the iPhone 8, will feature the wireless charging technology.

Reports suggest that the iPhone 8 will come with inductive wireless charging rather than long-range. Reportedly, the technology will be supplied by Luxshare, which also supplies wireless charging technology for Apple Watch.

According to the new report, Apple will not include the wireless charging technology in the box. Instead, the accessory will be sold separately.

Moreover, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will not include the Lightning to 3.5mm headphone adapter with the purchase of any iPhone released this year, according to the latest report.

As we reported earlier, Apple is said to introduce three new iPhones this year.

Two models will be iterative updates to the existing iPhone 7, whereas the other will be a premium flagship phone with an OLED display and radical new design. The iPhone 8 might be bezel-less with a Touch ID home button integrated into the display.

The iPhone 8 will feature the highest level of water-resistance rating, Korean Herald reported. It will reportedly be IP68 certified, meaning the phone can survive for 30 minutes in 1.5 meters of water.

New reports also suggest that the iPhone 8 will cost more than $1000.
