Apple Inc.(NASDAQ:AAPL)’s Rumored 2017 iPhone SE Could Sport A Lighting Connector

The Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone SE has of course been a beloved device to many. Its features the likes of the presence of a great camera, speed, compactness, and longer battery life are highly celebrated. Besides, its cost of $399 is considered a bargain. However, rumor has it that it will soon be exiting the market because Apple will not be upgrading it.

A Target memo obtained by MacRumors reveals that all stores have been instructed to return any unsold iPhone SE models. This is a surprising turn of events even as the popularity of the friendly 4-inch handset goes on the record. Both of its variants; 16GB and 64GB capacities, which are in different colors, have been considered critical and commercial hits.

It remains unclear why the iPhone maker has taken such a drastic action. It cannot be blamed on poor sales because the iPhone SE has been doing very well in the market.

But there is a rumored iPhone that Apple is likely to unleash at the upcoming March event

Looking at how Apple has been throwing in surprises, it is not in vain that it has recalled its iPhone SE devices. Apparently, the recall comes just on the verge of Apple’s widely expected March event. It is speculated that the event, which will be headlining new iPads, is also expected to unleash a refreshed iPhone SE.

In what seems like a confirmation, Ming-Chi Kuo, a KGI’s Securities analyst is quoted saying that the new 2017 iPhone models will include Lightning connectors. In a new research note, Kuo writes, “We believe all three new iPhones launching in 2H17 will support fast charging by the adoption of Type-C Power Delivery technology (while still retaining the Lightning port).”

It will not be a surprise that 2017 iPhone models will support fast charging over USB-C

It had earlier been claimed that Apple would be ditching the lighting for USB-C. However, a different report says otherwise; the lighting is there to stay due to Apple’s belief that it provides high-speed data transmission.

Nonetheless, having a USB-C on this year’s iPhone will not be a surprise because Apple’s 12.9-inch iPad Pro already sports a fast charging feature. However, all this remains to be seen once the device is revealed. In the meantime, Apple’s stock closed at $138.96 a decline of $0.83 or 0.59%.
