Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL), Howard University Initiate A Program For Black Students

Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google has established a partnership with Howard University in Washington, D.C that will result in the launch of the Howard West Program. The tech giant says that the program aims at promoting diversity and culture that will give room to black software engineers studying at the campus. Google Vice President Bonita Stewart says that having a racially specific program like this is the only way that black people will interact with other people at the campus.

Google’s present partnership with Howard to change work culture?

The program, which will at the beginning only accept students from Howard University is expected to start in summer. It will start with 25 students but it will also expand to other universities and schools in the future. Stewart points out that they are aware of the many obstacles that black students face in obtaining full-time work within the tech industry.

However, the new partnership is expected to change this culture. Everyone will grow according to the VP quotes, “Howard West is now the centerpiece of Google’s effort to recruit more black software engineers from Historically Black Colleges and Universities — and to make them feel right at home here in Mountain View.”

Howard West hopes to produce future leaders who can transform global technology space

The world is quickly inclining towards the use of technology even for the slightest needs. Having taken note of this, Howard University President Wayne Frederick says that their desire is to have people that can revamp the industry to make it more accurate and stronger.

He is optimistic about the students at the university citing that they will also learn a lot about the importance of diversity in business, in the sense of skin color at least. They will interact with Google engineers for a period of three months. Notably, Google has been in the lead promoting career opportunities for young women. It has been encouraging them to pursue the prospects within the tech company.

Apparently, from Google’s large workforce only 2% are black employees and only half of these are doing technology-related work. In the meantime, Alphabet’s stock closed at $839.65 a fall of $10.15 or 1.19%
