Dwayne Johnson, also popularly known as The Rock, may have leaked an upcoming version of the Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) Mustang Bullitt in a video accidentally. The clip which was posted to Johnson’s YouTube page was a behind-the-scenes video for a commercial that had been filmed at a Ford facility in Dearborn. The actor and former wrestler is a spokesperson for the Detroit-based car maker.
Dead giveaways
In the video, design sketches of what seems like the Mustang Bullitt can be seen at the 3:07 mark. Some of the giveaways that prompted viewers to conclude that it was a Mustang Bullitt included the fact that the sketches showed a car with a darkened torque thrust wheels, a faux gas cap with crosshairs, a sleeper look and dark highland green paint.
Another big clue that the sketches let out is the fact that the heading of the sketch board reads ‘S550 Mustang MCA’. In Ford parlance, MCA is an acronym for ‘Mid Cycle Action’ which also means mid-cycle refresh. This is an indication that the car will be released post-2018.
Speculation concerning the reintroduction of the Mustang Bullitt gained momentum after the launch of the sixth-generation Mustang. That the car was massively popular was proven by the fact that the production of the 2008 edition had to be extended for another year because of the reception it received in the market.
Hollywood meets Detroit
Besides what appears to be an accidental leak, another factor that has enthusiasts of the Bullitt convinced the car will make a comeback include the fact that next year will be the 50th anniversary of the Steve McQueen film titled Bullitt. The film features a car chase scene involving a Dodge Charger R/T and a Mustang GT considered one of the most exciting, dramatic and influential in the history of film. If the Ford Mustang Bullitt does indeed get relaunched, this would be a fitting tribute to the car that was named in honor of the Steve McQueen character in the famous 1968 movie.
In Monday’s trading shares of Ford Motor Company fell by 0.32 percent to close the day at $12.52.
