Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) In Expansion Of Services For Small Businesses

A new internet service offering speeds of one gigabit per second has been launched by Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) for local businesses in Rockford. There will not be any new construction needed as the existing 1,600 miles of local network infrastructure will be used. Residential customers have been enjoying the same service since last year.

First in line

With regards to the business sector, Rockford is now one of the first areas to get the service among all the markets that Comcast serves. The service, which will allow all businesses in Northwest Illinois to get the high-speed internet regardless of the community or neighborhood the business was located in, was launched last month.

“Businesses have a variety of needs and budgets, and this new service provides yet another option for customers who depend on technology and want faster internet speeds to help their businesses thrive and grow,” said the vice president of Comcast Business for the greater Chicago region, Jay Dirkmaat.

Two speed tiers for Chicago

Still in the state of Illinois, Comcast also unveiled two new internet speed tiers for businesses in the Chicago area. Dubbed Business Internet 1 Gig and Business Internet 500, the two speed tiers have been made available to business clients in Chicago. The two speed tiers will not require building out of new infrastructure. This will keep a lid on costs and will ensure minimum disruption if any.

In order for small to medium scale enterprises located in buildings that are already served by Comcast to start enjoying the service, all they need to do is to contact the media and technology giant so as to order a new modem. The new internet service is complementary to other services that Comcast has been offering such as the gigabit and multi-gigabit offerings.

Prices for the new service will depend on a variety of factors including the location of a business, the number of locations that the internet needs to be accessed from as well the other services the business already subscribes to.

In Wednesday’s trading, shares of Comcast Corporation fell by 0.69 percent to close the day at $75.09.
