Drone footage of the new Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) headquarters which cost an estimated $5 billion to construct has been posted by videographer Duncan Sinfield. The footage which Sinfield shot this month offers a glimpse of the Steve Jobs Theater Apple plans to use in the future as the venue for all product launches. Apple Park sits on a campus measuring 175 acres and the main ring-shaped building is 2.8 million square feet.
The theater which is named after the iconic co-founder and former chief executive officer of Apple, Steve Jobs, is a 1000-seat auditorium situated on a hill. It is 165 feet in diameter, has a metallic carbon-fiber roof and features glass panes that are 20-feet tall.
Final touches
In the drone footage, work on the building looks like it is nearing completion and construction crews can be seen putting on finishing touches. Right in the middle of the ring-shaped facility, workers can be seen planting trees. While much of the middle is covered in dirt, there is enough vegetation for occupation of the building to begin.
The roads that are around the new Apple facility are paved though the traffic lights haven’t been switched on yet. Cranes can also be seen moving about. Construction work in some of the buildings as well as part of the landscaping will also continue in summer this year even as employees move in.
12,000-employee facility
It is understood that some employees of Apple have already begun moving into the facility. The transition period is likely to take about half a year and the facility will eventually be able to hold about 12,000 employees, most of whom will be leaving the old headquarters located at 1 Infinite Loop.
Besides a theater and offices, Apple Park will also have a visitor’s center. Inside the visitor’s center will be a café and an Apple Store which will also be open to members of the public. Hiring for positions at the café has already begun.
Running entirely on renewable electricity Apple Park will be one of the world’s most energy-efficient buildings.
In the pre-market trading hours of Tuesday shares of Apple stood at $145.82.
