Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) To Launch New EcoSport Crossover In U.S.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) has announced that it plans to introduce its small EcoSport SUV in Los Angeles on Monday.

The announcement by Ford means that the small EcoSport SUV will finally be available in the U.S market for the first time. The company launched the EcoSport about 13 years ago but it was previously only available in other markets.  However, there were rumors that Ford has been planning to bring the small SUV into the U.S market as emission standards become stricter. This is one of the reasons small crossovers are becoming increasingly popular. It also reflects the changing consumer preferences as customers drift more towards crossovers and small SUVs.

The introduction of the EcoSport will offer the company some extra competitive advantage in the compact SUV segment. The company has been using the Ford Escape to lock into the segment while its major competitor is the Honda CRV. Adding a new model to the segment will be advantageous for the firm though the EcoSport is quite a few years late. The firm confirmed that it plans to launch the EcoSport in Los Angeles on Monday.

Popular Rapper DJ Khaled is expected to help unveil the vehicle and he leaked the news of the launch through a snapchat post. The EcoSport is offered globally and for that reason, it is offered in different powertrain options. The engine configurations consist of a 1.0-liter turbocharged I3 and a 140-horsepower, 2.0-liter I4 engine. It is also offered in manual and automatic gear options.

Ford has not revealed whether the U.S market will receive the existing second-generation EcoSport version or the third generation. Fortunately, the launch is in a few days where all the details around the matter will be revealed. Earlier this year, the automaker confirmed that it plans to sell the EcoSport in the US market for the next four years.

“The EcoSport is built on Ford’s global subcompact platform, which is the basis for the Ford Fiesta in the U.S. and Europe,” highlights a statement about the vehicle model.

Ford stock closed the latest trading session at $11.94.
