United Kingdom: Eurovia reinforces its position as a leading highway and motorway maintenance company

  • A 15-year contract for Highways England
  • With a value of more than €270 million (£225 million)

Highways England[i] has selected Eurovia, the VINCI subsidiary specialising in transport infrastructure and urban development, to take responsibility for managing routine maintenance and delivering capital renewal and improvement for highways and motorways in South West England. The network comprises 1,695 km of roads in the counties of Devon, Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.

The 15-year contract with a value of more than €270 million (£225 million) takes effect on 1 July 2017. In addition to major roads and motorway infrastructure improvement and maintenance, it also includes lighting maintenance, incident response, severe weather response and traffic management services.

Long-term major roads maintenance contracts account for more than 50% of Eurovia’s business activity in the United Kingdom, where the company manages more than 60,000 km of roads via its subsidiary Ringway and joint ventures Ringway Jacobs, South West Highways and BEAR Scotland.

With revenue amounting to €2.5 billion 2016, the United Kingdom constitutes VINCI’s third-largest market. The Group employs about 9,000 people there. In February of this year, via Eurovia, VINCI won the highway maintenance contracts for the counties of Wiltshire & Swindon. In August 2015, the Group also signed a contract for the East works package of the Thames Tideway tunnel in London, a major project designed to address the issue of untreated sewage discharge into the Thames.
