In the recent past, Samsung Galaxy S8 has had to endure a lot of troubles. The company’s Galaxy Note 7 also seems to be a never-ending saga following the latest software upgrade fiasco.  Earlier on the tech giant had indicated that it would be releasing a software update on Dec. 19. It is evident that the Korean company is hoping to entice the holdouts to return their fire-prone handsets finally. It is also optimistic that the timing is ideal in that it will give device owners more time to replace their explosive devices. After that, it will disable all Note 7 Smartphones in the US.

However, the announcement was followed by an unexpected pushback from Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ). The largest mobile carrier in the country, which is also the lone holdout among carriers, released a statement stating, “We will not push a software upgrade that will eliminate the ability for the Note 7 to work as a mobile device in the heart of the holiday travel season.”

The software update will go out on January 5, 2017: Verizon says

Clearly, Verizon and Samsung are at a cold war. In its refusal to release the new software for its Galaxy Note7 units Verizon cites concerns of having its customers disconnected from their families, first responders or medical professionals during the holiday season. The company further outlined that this could pose a risk to the Galaxy Note7 users who do not have alternative devices.  But even with its considerations, Verizon is still requesting its customers not to use the Galaxy Note7 device and instead consider a replacement.

But other carriers are pushing out the release of the update

Apparently, Verizon is not operating alone in its considerations. Its timing falls in line with other carriers who have honored to release the update after the holiday season. Sprint Corp (NYSE:S) will commence the rollout on January 8 while its counterpart AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) is touting it on January 5. However, T-Mobile US Inc (NASDAQ:TMUS) will be rolling out on December 27th.  With this calendar of events, it remains to be seen how effective it will be. Meanwhile, Verizon’s stock closed at $51.81 witnessing an increase of $0.18 or 0.35%.
