Upcoming Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) HomeKit Will Allow Users To Remotely Open Their Garage Doors

A Hungarian firm, Nold Technologies, is working on a conversation device that will feature an Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) homekit to connect to their existing door openers.

Nold Technologies is currently running an Indiegogo campaign that will feature an Apple Homekit that will allow users to use an app on their iPhones to open their garage doors. The Nold Open kit will be connected to remote control garage doors that feature two wires. Homeowners will still be able to use their regular remotes to open their garage doors but the kit will make it possible to communicate a signal through an iOS app. The connection will be enabled via Bluetooth.

The Nold Open device is expected to ship in December this year while the Apple Homekit will ship in February 2017. In theory, the technology can be used to open more than garage doors. It would fit perfectly well with electronically controlled gates, allowing homeowners to open their gates using an app. The client can set the converter to operate through an on/off mode, making it possible to use the technology for things like sliding doors or gates.

The technology currently doesn’t support echo devices from Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN). It also doesn’t support IFTTT recipes, however Nold Technologies claims that it is currently developing the Nold Open version for smartphones so that it can widen its scope of support. The technology also has a cloud connection that allows the user to grant access to friends and family. This makes it a convenient feature since one does not have to be there to open the door or gate for their friends or relatives.

It is also a significant step towards home automation and the expansion of IoT. The smartphone app will also allow the admin user to give limited access to people, for example, contractors or people making deliveries. Nold Technologies claims that the user can give access to as any phones as possible.
