Jaguar, the luxury vehicle brand of British multinational car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover, plans to release its first electric car in 2018.

The gorgeous SUV, I-PACE Concept, would be a strong competitor to the Tesla Model X. Jaguar is playing a smart move as there is a strong demand for electric SUVs.

Jaguar is expected to put the SUV into production later this year.

The I-PACE Concept was revealed at the Los Angeles International Auto Show last November. It was designed by Jaguar’s vaunted design chief Ian Callum.

The SUV features a “cab-forward design” and will have a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive drivetrain. It will come with a 90 kilowatt-hour battery pack. LG Chem will supply battery cells for the I-PACE.

Jaguar claims that the car will offer a rated range of 220 miles, which is quite impressive.

The I-PACE will be able to recharge itself with fast-chargers that use the DC Fast standard, according to Jaguar.

Jaguar is likely to begin production very soon and the car will first arrive at dealers in Europe by the end of the year.

Jaguar expects to bring the car to the United States sometimes in 2018.

The company did not disclose information about the I-PACE’s price. The Model X starts at $82,500 and the I-PACE could also get a base price tag of around $80,000.

Jaguar Land Rover is owned by India’s Tata Motors (NYSE:TTM).
