Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (KRX:005930) is reportedly building its own version of Amazon Echo, a voice-controlled device that is currently leading the Wi-Fi speaker market.

According to a report from Wall Street Journal (via Tech Crunch), the Korean tech giant is working on the Bixby-powered smart speaker — codenamed “Vega” — to challenge Amazon Echo.

Details about features and specifications of Samsung’s rumored device aren’t available at this time. Also, it’s clear when exactly Samsung will be able to launch the smart speaker.

Bixby’s English-Language Version Faces Problem

Recent reports suggest that the maker of Galaxy smartphones has been facing problems with its Bixby smart assistant that was announced with the company’s latest flagship smartphone, Galaxy S8.

Due to lack of data in English, Samsung was unable to launch its smart assistant for Galaxy S8 users in the United States. The Korean firm is reportedly facing problems with the voice-powered element of the smart assistant.

Samsung reportedly failed to debut the English-language version of Bixby before the end of June due lack of data. According to reports, the virtual assistant needs data to process English grammar and syntax.

Now, the report from the WJS suggests that Samsung could release the full version of Bixby voice assistant “before the second half of July.”
