Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Launches Netflix of Video Games

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) is rolling out a video game subscription-based model similar to Netflix. The Redmond-based tech titan announced this week that it is launching Xbox Game Pass in more than 25 markets including the United States, Russia, and India.

First announced earlier this year, Xbox Game Pass is a new digital gaming subscription service that gives users unlimited access to more than 100 Xbox One and Backward Compatible Xbox 360 games for $10 a month.

“With one low monthly price for unlimited access to tons of games, along with exclusive discounts, Xbox Game Pass is a tremendous opportunity to better meet the needs of all gamers,” Microsoft said in a statement.

Xbox Game Pass allows users to download and play games in full fidelity on Xbox One or Xbox One S console. Microsoft plans to add new games every month to Xbox Game Pass (just like Netflix) so there is always something new to play.

Microsoft is giving Xbox Live Gold members an exclusive early access to Xbox Game Pass. The Live Gold members can now start their 14-day free trial and play over 100 games. Beginning June 1, the new gaming subscription service will be available for all users and anyone with an Xbox Live account will be able to start their 14-day free trial, the company said.

In addition to playing games online, Game Pass members will be able to purchase all Xbox One games and related add-ons at an exclusive discount, according to the company.

Xbox Game Pass will be available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, UK, and United States.

Meanwhile, shares of Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) closed up 0.49% on Friday. The stock is up 12.58% so far this year.
