Lattice Semiconductor Corp (NASDAQ:LSCC), TPCAST Form Partnership On Wireless VR Solutions

TPCAST and Lattice Semiconductor Corp (NASDAQ:LSCC) have formed an exclusive partnership with a view to delivering wireless solutions for VR headsets. WirelessHD solutions from Lattice Semiconductor will now feature in virtual reality applications developed by TPCAST. These sorts of applications require high bandwidth wireless video transmission that offers low latency.

Almost no latency

Feedback control for computers and smart devices, as well as wireless transmission of HD display, is supported by the TPCAST protocol. The recently released protocol, TPCAST 2.0, can support 4K resolution at a frequency of 120Hz. This allows for an immersive wireless virtual reality experience that comes with almost no latency with regards to the controllers and the display.

“Our partnership with TPCAST delivers optimized wireless video solutions, further validating our commitment to improving the virtual reality experience. Our WirelessHD technology allows VR enthusiasts to eliminate cables without sacrificing performance,” Lattice Semiconductor’s senior director of marketing, mobile and consumer division, Cheng Hwee Chee, said.

TPCAST director of marketing Andrea Liu further added that when they were looking for a partner, the technology from Lattice Semiconductor offered them the best fit. Liu also said that the only reason they were able to offer a virtual reality experience that is associated with high-bandwidth video transmission, robustness and low latency was because of Lattice Semiconductor.

High performance

Some of the solutions that TPCAST will be using from Lattice Semiconductor include the MOD6320-T/MOD6321-R WirelessHD modules which provides almost non-existent latency and high performance that suits virtual reality applications well. Other technologies from Lattice Semiconductor that are featured in TPCAST include SiI9396 600 MHz HDMI® bridge IC and LatticeECP3 SERDES-based FPGA.

Lattice Semiconductor has a wealth of experience spanning years. Its programmable logic devices are in use in various 360 degree camera and virtual reality applications including camera interface expansion, positional and spatial tracking and display bridging. TPCAST is based in Beijing and boasts of a core team that has wide experience in smart home, content operation, internet, video and graphics sectors. Before entering the VR sector TPCAST had been offering wireless display modules for car, computer monitor and television manufacturers.

In Monday’s trading Lattice Semiconductor Corp fell by 2.25% to close the day at $6.96.
