Japan’s Gumi Launches Cryptocurrency Investment Fund Worth $30M

Gumi, a Japanese mobile game publisher, has launched a crypto investment fun valued at $30 million. The fund, which has been dubbed Gumi Cryptos will invest in blockchain and countries that are friendly to cryptocurrencies for the purposes of gaming. The company is counting on the decentralized and transparent ledger technology which has steered several digital currencies like Ethereum and Bitcoin to take off.

Filling the information gap

Although the Japanese Yen accounts for more than 56% of all bitcoin trade volumes, Gumi says there is a big information gap and many do not have sufficient knowledge about the digital currency market. The company says they will be seeking to bridge this gap and attract more investors.

In a statement, Gumi Founder and CEO, Hironao Kunimitsu, said that they created the fund so as to be able to interact more with early-stage cryptocurrency and blockchain startups. He says that by doing so, they will make effective partners and have a significant impact in the market.

According to the CEO, the company has a big team of people who are well experienced in emerging and disruptive technologies. Kunimitsu says that Gumi crypto will allow them establish mutual relationships with many companies in the sector and achieve significant results for all parties involved.

Gumi claims that it is well prepared to take up the task ahead. It is playing up the advantage of being experienced in developing and launching mobile games like Brave Frontier, and it is well versed with the Japanese market. One of its investment leaders is Miko Matsumura, the founder of Evercoin, a U.S-based virtual currency exchange.

In a statement, Matsumura said they will be seeking to attract startups outside Japan to invest in the Japanese market. He noted that the fund will bring together players in equity and tokens, financial services, startups as well as game technologies. Some of the pioneer projects that are being funded by Gumi crypto include Pryze, Robot Cache, Origin Protocol and Basis.

Matsumura is an advisor at Arrington XRP Capital and a Venture Partner at BitBull Capital.
