Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced that William Gordon resigned from the e-commerce giant’s board of directors.

In a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the online retailing giant said that venture capital executive stepped down as a director to provide consulting services to the company for two years.

Amazon said that Gordon will remain a non-voting observer of the board during his two-year consulting contract.

Under the consulting agreement, Gordon was granted a restricted stock unit award for 3,100 shares, vesting over two years.

Gordon serves as chief product officer at venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers. He is co-founder of Electronic Arts.

Gordon joined Amazon’s board in 2003.

An Amazon spokesman told The Seattle Times that Gordon will “devote significant time advising Amazon on strategic consumer initiatives.”
