GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO) Releases Two Mobile Video Editing Apps

GoPro Inc (NASDAQ:GPRO) is going more mobile. The company launched two new mobile apps – Quik and Splice that it bought back in February.

One of the apps automatically creates GoPro type videos and the other app grants the user more fine editing control. According to the company, these apps are free, and both are welcome in the GoPro ecosystem.

These two apps may sound familiar as GoPro acquired the teams behind Splice and Quik early in 2016. The company has launched apps with various updates; however; they seem to have similar features to earlier editions. Splice app is available for only iOS while Quik is available for both iOS and Android.

The Quik app automatically synchronizes videos and photos to music. The user can select multiple videos that are stored on their phone, select a soundtrack, and the app automatically edits the videos together to the beat of the music.

In a press release issued by GoPro, the company says that the Splice app is fully customizable, and therefore, the user can make professional-looking videos in just a few minutes. The app can add text to the videos, transitions, adding effects such as slo-mo, and trimming the video clips. Moreover, the Splice app has a library of music.

When the company released its quarterly report in February, CEO Nick Woodman was focused on software. He said that the company recognizes the need for software solutions that will simplify the offloading, access and editing of GoPro content by their customers.

The effort to address the problem has started with the two new apps that are also giving GoPro a way into the lives of smartphone users who might be lacking the company’s cameras.

The company will now embark on marketing their new mobile editing suite. If done right, GoPro may succeed in convincing existing customers to get their best GoPro products out of the junk drawer and give it another go at recording their lives.
