Google To Include Blockchain Technology In Its Cloud Offerings

Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is taking extra measures to beat its rivals in the cloud computing space and new reports suggest that it is pushing towards blockchain as one of the strategies it will use to gain an edge over the competition.

Alphabet’s Google is pushing towards this direction through new partner initiatives for its Cloud Computing Platform (GCP). The Ethereum blockchain and open source HyperLedger Fabric frameworks are the latest additions to the platform. The company is also working towards making the blockchain frameworks available for testing by CGP customers before the end of the year.

The software and internet giant made the announcement just days ahead of the Google Cloud Next ’18 conference held yesterday, July 24 and more details are expected to be revealed during the event. The company plans to hold a 50-minute session dubbed “Distributed Ledger Technology Partnerships on Google Cloud” during which the discussion will be about Google’s partners. They will also discuss the viable approaches for developing blockchain-based solutions.

“Customers can now explore ways they might use distributed ledger technology (DLT) frameworks on GCP with launch partners,” Google announced.

Google prides itself on being an early adopter of innovative technology but as far as blockchain is concerned, Google seems to have lagged behind some of the other companies that have adopted the technology. Sergey Brin, one of the founders of Google recently acknowledged that Google failed to adopt blockchain early enough. However, the internet giant is working towards changing that by finally embracing decentralized ledger technology and the recent announcement revealed that it will be offering enterprise blockchain services.

Google’s partnerships in the blockchain sector

Google’s blockchain pursuits will feature partnerships with multiple blockchain companies including BlockApps and Digital Asset. The latter recently revealed that its developer toolset and blockchain platform are available through Google Cloud. Its CEO Blythe Masters stated that they are working with Google Cloud to provide a wide range of solutions to developers so that they can tap into their full potential.

The fact that Google is now embracing the technology is great news for the blockchain community especially because the company has adequate resources to expand the technology. The involvement of major companies like Google also represents the massive potential that blockchain has to offer.
