Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) has rolled out a unique section on its News Feed where users can get any content and information related to the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio. The company launched the features on its Facebook and Instagram platforms.
The Olympics content will be available in a unique personalized section that was recently introduced on News Feeds. Facebook has introduced greetings on its platform which is intended to notify users of the new changes. The greetings are followed by a prompt to explore. Clicking the prompt reveals a series of Olympics content and conversations. It also reveals live videos and events from Rio. The current greetings will run from August 1 to August 5 as part of promoting the opening event. The next series of greetings will be launched on August 21 to mark the end of the 2016 Olympics.
Rio Olympic Games 2016
Facebook has teamed up with NBC to cover the 2016 Olympic Games to be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil as revealed by David Faber of NBC earlier in the week. Faber stated that the new features will also include posts from celebrities and athletes that are related to the Olympics. The partnership between the social network giant and NBC will feature a two-minute daily video showcasing the highlights of various sporting events. However, the two-minute recap will only be available to Facebook users in the US. NBC as a traditional media platform plans to take advantage of the partnership to cast its net into social media.
The deal is also good for Facebook and social media platforms in general because they have been trying to offer more content and as well as improved video quality. Brandon Gayle, head of Instagram’s global sports partnerships stated that Instagram and the Olympic Games are the perfect combo. Gayle also stated that the Instagram team is excited to be working together with NBC to feature more content on the platform. The changes will allow fans to use Instagram tools such as videos, photos and Instagram Stories to enjoy the sporting events in real time.
