Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is rumored to be building its own version of the Amazon Echo. The smart device, powered by the Siri personal assistant, could make debut sometime this year.
Apple hasn’t released any information about its voice-activated speaker. But rumors suggest that the Cupertino-based tech giant has been quietly working on the device.
Here is everything we so far know about the purported Apple’s voice-activated speaker.
Apple’s Echo Rival Rumors
Code-named B238, Apple’s voice-activated speaker is said to be similar to the company’s cylindrical Mac Pro desktop. It would be able to control smart-home devices, set timers and reminders, stream songs and provide weather updates, according to rumors.
Australian leaker Sonny Dickson told Jen Ryall, Mashable’s Australia Editor, that the Amazon Echo competitor built by Apple will have a concave top with physical controls on top, Apple Insider reported.
According to the leaker, the device would have a speaker mesh portion covering the body. The mesh is said to be similar to the UE Boom Bluetooth speaker accessory, which is being sold at Apple’s retail stores. The smart speaker is rumored to feature support for Siri and AirPlay and will include Beats speaker technology.
Dickson also noted that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) is close to “finalizing” the design for its Echo competitor.

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) could release its voice-activated speaker next month at its Worldwide Developers Conference.
