Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) Announce Launching Of New Apple Watch NikeLab

Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) reported that they are introducing a new Apple Watch 2 Series with the Apple Watch NikeLab.

Features of the new edition

The Apple Watch NikeLab includes a Space Gray Apple Watch Series that has a light bone/black Nike sport band. It also has a NikeLab Innovation X Innovators logo stamped on the inner part.

The new light bone/black Nike Sport band is similar to one of the new colors incorporated in the Apple Watch Nike+ faces included via the watchOS 3.2 recent update. It is not clear whether the standalone versions of the new band will be availed in the market for purchase. The watch maintains features similar to the Nike+ like the preloaded Nike+ Run Club app.

Apple Watch Nike+ was designed specifically for people with a passion for running whether a beginner or marathon veterans. It has water resistant features hence it can be used for shallow water activities such as swimming.

Availability of the newest addition

Nike states that the new limited edition version will be launched in about a week’s time on Nike.com, at the NikeLab stores and also through Apple at Apple Tokyo located in Isetan. Apple Watch NikeLab will neither be available at the apple.com website or in most Apple retail stores after its launch in April 27, 2017.

The Nike Sport bands were available exclusively to Apple Watch Nike+ initially. However, recently Nike and Apple started providing individual select bands. Apple Watch NikeLab is expected to be the next in line in the limited edition versions hence they may be temporary and more exclusive.

Pricing

The price of the new model is yet to be confirmed. However, speculations indicate that it may cost as much as Nike+. The model was going for $369 for a 38 millimeter model and $399 for the 42 millimeter model.

In March Apple began selling the Nike bands individually hence enabling the regular Watch owner to give them a try. There is no evidence that the new NikeLab will follow the same procedure.

On Thursday, Nike stock closed at $56.40 after a rise $0.54 or 0.97% while stock closed at $142.44 after a rise 1.76 or 1.25%.
