The stock of Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) closed at $157.10 gaining 0.60% in yesterday’s trading session. This company is compelled to live with the reality that it will miss its 2017 goal for iPhone X production by about 50 percent. The Japanese news agency Nikkei has given its report placing the initial shipments of the new device at about 20 million units. That figure represents only half of what had been projected by Apple earlier.

The problem emanates from the technicalities associated with the various components connected to the device’s new face authentication feature. The phone has taken over the fingerprint recognition technology that was widely employed earlier in the unlocking of a number of models bearing the face recognition called FaceID. It is coming along with an edge-to-edge OLED screen and a lot of customers have continued expressing their satisfaction with the series of changes that the company has been implementing lately.

Nikkei was closely following on that moment when the iPhone X went into mass production and it was quick to identify and report the OLED panel defects that had been plaguing the bonding process. July witnessed the resolution of the problem though there are still numerous issues surrounding assembly of the face authentication module.

Quite a large number of manufacturers struggled when it came to revamping the first pass yield, though things changed for the better in late September. At the moment, the iPhone X is being produced at a rate of about 10 million units per month. If all moves according to Plan, Apple is set to ship about 20 million units before the year ends.

Oct. 27 is the time pre-orders commence and the device will be unveiled on Nov. 3 and will be going at a price of $999. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak won’t be one of the people that will be lining up for the iPhone X. He opined, “I’d rather wait and watch that one. I’m happy with my iPhone 8 — which is the same as the iPhone 7, which is the same as the iPhone 6 to me.”
