Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been mentioned as a sponsor at a New York exhibition that will be held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The exhibition will be held to demonstrate the impacts of technological advancements on fashion. The company has been bulldozing its way through the wearables market through the Apple Watch that has earned it a lot of recognition in the fashion industry. The recognition is also attributed to the fact that the company is one of the most successful tech companies in the world and it will therefore attract a unique attendance especially from tech fanatics.
The New York exhibit will be launched on May 5 and will conclude on August 14. The exhibit will feature tech such as laser cutting and 3D printing which have had significant changes in high end-apparel since the technologies were introduced into the tech world. The museum will also show high tech dresses at the event.
The museum calls the tech exhibit the “Manus X Machina” and the event was created to showcase the distinction between machine-made apparel and man-made clothing as well as how designers have been struggling balancing between the two. The event will also showcase dresses made with traditional methods so as to stress the distinction between high-tech and the traditional apparel. One of the traditional outfits to be featured will be a suit made between 1963 and 1968 by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel.
The traditional dresses will particularly focus on how the invention of the sewing machine made it possible to make haute couture. The event highlights the growing acceptance of wearable technology in the fashion world and thus the need for deeper involvement in preparation for a boom in the industry in the future. It also highlights Apple’s increasing roles in the fashion and wearables industry and raises questions about the company’s plans for other offerings in the wearables department.
