Reports indicate that the lens modules of the next Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone are likely to possess a much higher resolution. According to sources the iPhone’s megapixel count is expected to exceed the 12MP available on the iPhone 7 Plus and the iPhone 7. The reports have been sourced from the supply chain of the Cupertino, California-based tech giant.

Largan Precision, a Taiwanese firm, is going to supply the camera lenses as it has the capacity to handle the large quantities that Apple will order. A new plant that Largan Precision will be opening in October is expected to have a monthly production capacity of lens modules numbering 600 million.

Dual camera

Besides higher resolution all versions of the next iPhone are also likely to possess a dual camera array. Currently only the iPhone 7 Plus has a dual camera array. Additionally the next iPhone is expected to support augmented reality.

Reports indicating Apple’s focus on the camera comes amidst leaks which reveal that the next iPhone will be named iPhone X. The leaks further reveal that Apple would launch two other iPhone models – the iPhone 8 Plus and the iPhone 8. The iPhone 8 will be a basic upgrade from the iPhone 7 and some of the new features expected on this model include wireless inductive charging. It is also expected to sport a new and advanced micro-processing chip and glass back panels.

New features

Unlike the iPhone 8, the iPhone X will be more than just basic upgrades. The home button will for instance be eliminated and gestures will be used to control the device. An OLED display is also expected that will measure 5.8 inches. The display is expected to accommodate 3D sensors, earpiece and front camera.

And instead of using fingerprint authentication the operating system of iPhone X will have a facial authentication mechanism. Apple has also developed a messaging app known as Animoji which will be capable of using 3D technology capable of creating emojis that will reflect the expression of a user.

On Tuesday shares of Apple Inc fell by 1.63% to close the day at $158.63.
