Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) is quickly embracing a transformation from being just an online retailer. The truth is, it has a global recognition as the place to go for the purchase of about anything. Amazon bags billions of dollars from its online merchandise every year. However, in the spirit of adding value to its activities, it has embraced the looming competition in the development of sophisticated virtual assistant. The Seattle-based giant has given its Alexa voice assistant new and exciting capability; that of placing food delivery orders from businesses allied to Amazon Restaurants.

From the look of things Amazon is following suit the like of Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL), and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), the notable tech giants that have taken control of phones, computers and even the watches on our wrists. Surprisingly, Amazon seems to be winning in the new emerge race given the increasing dominance of its voice assistant. This was clearly evidenced in the annual Las Vegas tech confab where app developers and app developers flaunt their prowess. Alexa showed up in laundry machines, robots lamps and car infotainment systems among others.

Voice recognition technology is finally getting to maturity

After considerable failure over the years, the use of voice recognition technology is finally becoming relatively close. Much of Alexa’s coming ubiquity can be mapped out from the days of Amazon Echo. However, the promises of something better and bigger have come to pass.

Previously placing orders require the use of Amazon and Prime Now mobile apps but this is now changing. Amazon Restaurant’s general manager, Gus Lopez explains, “Customers now have a hands-free, hassle-free way to re-order any meal from Amazon Restaurants using their voice to get dinner on the table.”

But the new Alexa skill is currently limited to re-orders

More often than not success is tagged on strategy and the use of innovative Alexa technology is Amazon’s strategy to remain in the competitive market. However, its use is currently limited to reorders. This implies that whoever is using it for the first time must first access Amazon Restaurants via the web or app and the next order becomes just a voice command away.

Evidently, Amazon has vowed to contend with tech companies that are presumably way ahead when it comes to gadgets and software. Nonetheless, experts are opinionated that Alexa will give Amazon a comparative competitive edge given that Echo is much older in the market compared to Google Home and other rival devices. In the meantime, Amazon’s stock was trading at $780.45 witnessing an increase of $23.27 or 3.07%.
