Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) To Launch Landline Service In Some Cities

Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) has revealed a new landline telephone service that it plans to introduce in some cities in the US.

The tech giant named the service Fiber Phone, and it will include basic landline features and a few exciting modern features that give the landline a sense of modernism. One of the most notable features of the Google landline includes the ability to transcribe voice messages and sending them as emails or text messages.

Some of the other features that Alphabet will offer with the new landline include 911 services, unlimited nationwide and local calling, caller identification and call waiting. Sources familiar with the matter have also reported that the company will charge a fixed price of $10 per month. Alphabet will also enable Fiber Phone to work with laptops, tablets and phones so that it can support the transcribing ability.

The new landline phone will enter the market as a direct competitor against internet service providers and communication carriers in the country. It will initially be deployed in areas where the company has already introduced Google Fiber including Provo, Kansas City and Austin, Texas among others. It will also be expanded to Atlanta, Nashville, Charlotte, Raleigh-Durham and Salt Lake City. The launch will first take place in cities in the US before being expanded into the UK.

Though mobile phones have been future-oriented, the home phone service is still a vital part of many families. Landlines have gone through little technological advancements over time though they have been known to offer high-quality service and reliability.

Since it will be a cloud service, the phone numbers will exist in the cloud, and this allows users to use it on any smartphone, laptop or tablet. This means users can receive calls when they are at home or when they are away.
