Many believe that the criminal justice system is crowded with racial bias, particularly at the federal level. Apparently, there is no data that illustrates police behavior or criminal sentencing as a situation that leaves millions of people helpless. It is for this reason that Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) is committing to reduce the racial disparity within the criminal justice.

How so? Through its charitable division, Google.org, the search giant will be offering close to $11.5 million in grants to ten racial justice organizations. The amount is almost double what Google granted the advancement of racial justice last year.

There are many organizations in consideration for funding. However, the Center for Policing Equity will receive the largest part of the grant of $5 million. The amount will facilitate its activities in advancing its work within police agencies and communities. Others that are slated for partial pieces of the grant are Measures for Justice, Defy Ventures, Impact Justice, Silicon Valley De-Bug and Code for America among others.

All these organizations collaborate to enhance relationships between youth, the community, and the justice system.  The W. Haywood Burns Institute trains law enforcers and prosecutors in handling various situations.

Principal with Google.org, Justin Steele says, “There is significant ambiguity regarding the extent of racial bias in policing and criminal sentencing. We must find ways to improve the accessibility and usefulness of information.”

But what triggered Google to focus on racial biases?

There are many diversities in our everyday lives that Google will want to address. However, there was particular interest in the area of racial biases; the lack of national data. Google is optimistic that the new move will bring fundamental changes into the criminal justice system by making statistics more known.

Google.org has always been at the center of helping fund programs and organizations. The establishment focuses on those that are inclined to making a remarkable impact in the world. Having been founded in late 2005, it has been donating close to $100 million in grants every year and $1 billion in products.

Meanwhile, Alphabet’s stock closed at $851.00 a fall of $0.36 or 0.04%.
