Item 2.02. Results of Operations and Financial Condition.

On October 2, 2019, Alimera Sciences, Inc. (“Alimera”) issued a press release regarding its expectations for its consolidated net revenue for the third quarter ended September 30, 2019. Specifically, Alimera stated that it expects to report consolidated net revenue for the third quarter of 2019 exceeding $12.8 million, which compares to $10.9 million for the second quarter of 2019 and $11.1 million in the third quarter of 2018. In addition, Richard S. Eiswirth, Jr., Alimera’s President and Chief Executive Officer, stated in the press release: “In the U.S. in the third quarter we saw sequential growth over the second quarter, which supports our belief that we have successfully addressed the domestic sales force issues we experienced in the first half of the year.” He also noted: “Our international sales segment continues to exhibit strong growth, as we further penetrate into existing territories with ILUVIEN®’s two approved indications, diabetic macular edema and non-infectious posterior uveitis.” The full text of the press release is furnished as Exhibit 99.1 to this Current Report on Form 8-K.

The Company’s product is ILUVIEN, which is developed to treat diabetic macular edema (DME). DME is a disease of the retina that affects individuals with diabetes and can lead to severe vision loss and blindness.
